Silver Lake (Washington)

Silver Lake, in Washington, United States, is both a marsh and unincorporated area located about 30 miles west of Mount St. Helens. It is home to a nature trail, and the visitor center for the Mount St. Helens National Monument. The lake itself is 3,000 acres in size and camping is available at Seaquest State Park, which occupies 475 acres along 1 mile of the lakeshore. Camping, fishing, and boating also available at Streeters Resort, and Mt. St. Helens RV Resort.

Seaquest State Park

Seaquest State Park in Cowlitz County, Washington is a camping in the Washington State Park System. The campground includes standard (non-utility) sites, partial(water&electricity) sites and full hookup's (water, electricity & sewage). It consists of 475 acres of forest with over 1 mile of freshwater shoreline on Silver Lake near Mount St. Helens. However Silver Lake is not a considerable swimming spot; Better known for it's Wetlands trail and boat launch.

Cowlitz County, Washington

Cowlitz County is a county located in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2010 census, its population was 102,410. It forms the Longview, Washington, Metropolitan Statistical Area which encompasses all of Cowlitz County. The county seat is at Kelso, and its largest city is Longview. Its name derives from the anglicized version of the Cowlitz Indian term, Cow-e-liske, meaning either “river of shifting sands” or “capturing the medicine spirit. ” It was formed on April 21, 1854.

Toutle River Sediment Retention Structure

The Sediment Retention Structure is an earthen dam, 1,888 feet long and 184 feet high, on the North Fork Toutle River in the U.S. state of Washington. Completed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1989, it is meant to prevent sediment from the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens from increasing flood risks along the Toutle and Cowlitz rivers. The Corps initially expected the basin behind the dam to be filled by 2035 with 258 million cubic yards (197 million m) of sediment.
