Sophia, West Virginia

Sophia is a town in Raleigh County, West Virginia, United States. It was incorporated in 1912. The population was 1,344 at the 2010 census. Sophia was the hometown of the late U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd. In Winter of 2006, Taylor allowed Independence High School senior Brett Hatfield to become "Mayor for the day" for his senior project. In this event, Hatfield became a fifth generation mayor of the town, as one of his great-great-great-great grandfathers was the town's original mayor.

Mullens, West Virginia

Mullens is a city in Wyoming County, West Virginia. The population was 1,559 at the 2010 census. Located in a valley along the Guyandotte River within a mountainous region of southern West Virginia, the town was nearly destroyed by flash flooding in July 2001. While the town has attempted to redevelop with the aid of state and federal recovery money, many local businesses and residents have left the area permanently.
