Alofi Island

Alofi is an island in the Pacific Ocean belonging to the French overseas collectivity of Wallis and Futuna. It is virtually uninhabited (population 2 as of census of 2003 in the village of Alofitai in the west), and under the chief of Alo on Futuna, but in pre-European times it was as densely populated as Futuna, which would have been a population of almost 1900. Former villages were Sologa (north), Sa'avaka (southeast), Alofitai (west), and Mua (northwest).

Futuna (Wallis and Futuna)

Futuna is an island in the Pacific Ocean belonging to the French overseas collectivity of Wallis and Futuna. It is one of the Hoorn Islands or Îles Horne, nearby Alofi being the other. They are both a remnant of an old extinct volcano, now bordered with a fringing reef. The island is famous as the place (where the cathedral of Poi now stands) where Pierre Chanel was martyred in 1841, becoming Polynesia's one and only Catholic saint.

The Hoorn Islands (also Futuna Islands) are one of the two island groups of which the French overseas collectivity of Wallis and Futuna is geographically composed. Leava is the administrative centre of the chiefdom of Sigave on the French Pacific island of Futuna, part of the Wallis and Futuna group. It is located on the shore of Singave Bay in the centre of the island's west coast, and has a population of 480.
