Battle of Zafar

The Battle of Zafar took place in 633 between Khalid ibn al-Walid and a tribal mistress called Salma. Khalid defeated her and she died on the battlefield. The battle was part of the Ridda Wars. This apostate leader was riding on a camel surrounded by her loyal guardied Khalid ibn al-Walid approached to her with a group of mujaheddin and slaughter her with her bodyguards. Several hundred apostate died in this battle.

Zafar, Yemen

Ẓafār or Dhafar (Ar ظفار) Ðafār is an ancient Himyarite site situated in Yemen, some 130 km south-south-east of today's capital, Sana'a. Given mention in different ancient texts, there is little doubt about the pronunciation of the name. Despite the opinion of local patriots in Oman, this site is far older than its namesake there. It lies in the Yemenite highlands at some 2800 m. The closest large town is Yarim, which is 10 km directly to the north-north-west.

Thamar University

Thamar University (also called Dhamar University) is a modern public university located in the city of Thamar, Yemen. Situated at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:14|34|46|N|44|22|44|E| |primary |name= }}, it is the biggest university in the country. The University of Thamar was inaugurated on 17 June 1996, in order to meet the need for manpower development in the Thamar Governorate and the surrounding region.
