Kabwe

Kabwe is the capital of the Zambian Central Province with a population estimated at 202,914 at the 2010 census. Formerly named Broken Hill, it was founded when the Broken Hill lead and zinc deposits were discovered in 1902. Kabwe also has a claim to being the birthplace of Zambian politics. It is an important transportation and mining centre.

Kabwe District

Kabwe District is a district of Zambia, located in Central Province. The capital lies at Kabwe. As of the 2000 Zambian Census, the district had a population of 176,758 people.

Chibombo

Chibombo is a town in the Central Province of Zambia, and is headquarters of Chibombo District. The town lies near the Lukanga Swamp. It is 95 km north of Lusaka and 45 km south-west of Kabwe on the Great North Road. On February 7, 2013, a bus collided with two cars near Chibombo and Chisamba, killing 53 people. It is considered to be one of the worst road accidents in Zambian history.

Chibombo bus crash

On February 7, 2013, a bus collided with a semi-truck and a sport utility vehicle on the Great North Road, between the towns of Chibombo and Kabwe in the Central Province of Zambia, resulting in the deaths of 49 of the 73 persons on the bus, and of the truck driver and his assistant. A further 28 people were injured. The crash was one of the worst in the history of Zambia, and was compared to a 2005 bus accident in which 38 high school students died and another 50 were seriously injured.
