Chipata

Chipata, population 98,416, is the capital of the Eastern Province of Zambia. Having a boma, a market, a hospital, a shopping centre and a number of schools, Chipata is the business and adminstrative hub that serves the region. The town boasts a golf course, an airstrip, a mosque, and even a "welcome arch". The two languages spoken are Nyanja and English, plus some Indian languages, as a large number of Zambian Indians live in the town.

Chadiza District

Chadiza District with the headquarters at Chadiza lies in the extreme south-east corner of Zambia, bordering Malawi to its east and Mozambique to its south. The eastern half of the district is characterised by wooded rocky hills rising to 1330 m while the western half has the same character as the land around Chadiza town. This part of the district has been almost completely deforested and suffers soil erosion. As of the 2000 Zambian Census, the district had a population of 83,981 people.
