Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, was founded in 1996 when the Taliban began their rule of Afghanistan and ended with their fall from power in 2001. Even at the peak of their influence, the Taliban never controlled the entire area of Afghanistan, as about 10% of the country in the northeast was held by the Northern Alliance.

The Emirate of Afghanistan, began with the decline of the Durrani dynasty and succession of the Barakzai dynasty. This period was characterized by the expansion of European colonial interests in South Asia. The Emirate of Afghanistan continued the war with the Sikh Empire, which led to invasion of Afghanistan by British-led Indian forces who completely wiped out the Afghans in 1842 but didn't fulfil their initial war objectives.

Nili District

Nili (also known as Layli) is a district in Daykundi Province, Afghanistan. The main town in the district, also called Nili, serves as the capital of Daykundi Province. The town of Nili is at 2,022 m altitude and has a small airport (heliport) with a gravel runway and a commercial radio station. The weather conditions in the winter are severe and the roads are difficult. Nili district shares borders with volatile Gizab District, which was reported to have many Taliban insurgents roaming around.
