Kërçinë

Kërçinë is a peak in the mountain of Dešat located in eastern Albania and western Macedonia. Kërçinë reaches a height of 2,345 m . It is the second highest peak of Deshat after Velivar. Its location is south of the mountain which has steep slopes.

Velivar

Velivar is a mountain peak found between the two Balkan countries of Albania and Macedonia. Velivar reaches a height of 2,369 m and is the highest peak of Dešat. The nearest town to Velivar is Peshkopi in Albania. The position of Velivar on Dešat is almost in the middle of the mountain ridge. Small streams that originate near Velivar flow westwards to join with the Black Drin in Albania.

Dešat

Dešat or Deshat is a mountain on the border between Albania and the Republic of Macedonia. The mountain is characterised by its steep peaks: Mal and Golem Kërçinë and Velivar. The highest peak on the mountain, Velivar, is situated on 2,375 m above the sea level. Other significant peaks are: Deli Senica, and Suva Bara. Dešat also has deep river gorges, immense forests, and small glacial mountain lakes. The nearest town from the Albanian side is Peshkopi and from the Macedonian side is Debar.

Trebište

Trebište, Trebishte, or Trebišta (the pronunciation used by the local population is Trebišča) is a village in the Republic of Macedonia in Mavrovo and Rostuša Municipality, situated in the Dolna Reka district, on the eastern slopes of Dešat, above the gorge of Radika.

Battle of Meçad (1465)

The Battle of Meçad took place on July 1465 between Skanderbeg's Albanian forces and Ballaban Badera's Ottoman forces. Skanderbeg had been leading a war against the Ottoman Empire for over two decades and Ballaban Badera was an Ottoman captain of Albanian origin who had been recruited through the devşirme system. Ballaban planned to catch Skanderbeg's camp in a surprise when he was away. Skanderbeg had been warned of the stratagem, however, and surrounded the Ottoman camp instead.
