The nearest town to Velivar is Peshkopi in Albania. The position of Velivar on Dešat is almost in the middle of the mountain ridge. Small streams that originate near Velivar flow westwards to join with the Black Drin in Albania.

Dešat also has deep river gorges, immense forests, and small glacial mountain lakes. The nearest town from the Albanian side is Peshkopi and from the Macedonian side is Debar.
