Bethioua
Bethioua (formerly Arzew, under French rule, called Vieil Arzew then Saint Leu) is a town in the wilaya of Oran in the west of Algeria. It has a gas port, petrochemical facilities and desalination plant. It is located on the ruins of the ancient Roman settlement of Portus Magnus. The region itself belonged to the Battiwa (pl. Ibettiwen), a group of Berber clans which arrived from the Rif mountains century ago and settled this small costaline in between Oran and Mostaganem.

Saint-Leu Airfield
Saint-Leu Airfield was a military airfield in Algeria, near the city of Bettioua, about 45 km northeast of Oran. During World War II it was used by the United States Army Air Force Twelfth Air Force 319th Bombardment Group during the North African Campaign against the German Afrika Korps. The 319th flew B-26 Marauder medium bombers from the airfield between 11 and 18 November 1942.

Gdyel

Under French rule, it was the centre of a wine-growing district and was called St. Cloud. According to the 1998 census it has a population of 29 999. When the Americans invaded Algeria in November 1942 (Operation Torch), the troops who landed at Beach Z, between Arzew and St. Leu were held up for two days by fierce fighting at St. Cloud.
