Shirakavan

For the modern village called Shirakavan, see Shirakavan, Armenia. Shirakavan (Armenian: Շիրակավան, also spelled Shirakawan) also known by the name Yerazgavors was a medieval Armenian town that, during the 9th century AD, served as the capital for the Bagratid Kingdom of Armenia. The settlement had declined into a small village by the end of the 19th century, and the site (which now lies within Turkish territory) has been partly flooded by the waters of a dam built on the Akhurian River.
