Hamilton, Tasmania

Hamilton is a small rural town 73 kilometres north-west of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. It is on the Lyell Highway. At the 2006 census, the town and surrounding area had a population of 300. Governor Macquarie named the locality as 'Sorell Plains', and it became locally known as 'Macquarie' and 'Lower Clyde'. Governor Arthur finalised a name for the locality and this was announced in 1826 (Colonial Times and Tasmanian Advertiser, Friday 28 July 1826, page 3).

Clyde River (Tasmania)

The Clyde River is a river in central Tasmania. The river drains the Clyde River Catchment (1,120 km²), an agricultural region of Tasmania. There are two towns in the catchment, Bothwell and Hamilton. There are two water storage dams on the river that make Lake Sorell and Lake Crescent. The river joins the River Derwent system at Lake Meadowbank.

Meadowbank Power Station is a hydroelectric power station on the Lower Derwent River it was opened in 1963. It has one turbine, with a generating capacity of 40 MW of electricity.

Ouse, Tasmania

Ouse is a small town in the Central Highlands Council local government area in Tasmania, Australia on the Lyell Highway. At the 2006 census, Ouse had a population of 137. The town briefly made national headlines in August 2006 when the Ouse District Hospital, originally established as a Bush Nursing Centre and reconstituted in its present form in 1956, was downgraded to a health centre due to the lack of a GP to service the area.
