Banksia Peninsula

Banksia Peninsula is a peninsula in Victoria, Australia. It is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:37|56|S|147|41|E||| | |name= }}, about 15 kilometres (9 mi) south of Bairnsdale on the northern side of the Gippsland Lakes. A long, narrow, sandy peninsula, it is the site of Duck Arm, a popular recreational bay with around thirty houses and a number of school camps. The name refers to the plant genus Banksia, which grows in the area.

Mitchell River (Victoria)

The Mitchell River is the largest unregulated river in Victoria, Australia and provides a unique example of riparian ecology. Tributaries include the Crooked, Dargo, Wentworth, Wonnangatta, and Wongungarra Rivers, which are surrounded by dense native forest on the steep mountains of the Victorian Alps. The river flows south and enters Lake King, one of the Gippsland Lakes. The river was named by Angus McMillan in 1839 after Sir Thomas Mitchell, explorer and Surveyor General of New South Wales.

Bairnsdale

Bairnsdale is a small city in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. With a population at the 2006 census of 11,282, it is a major regional centre of eastern Victoria along with Traralgon and Sale. Bairnsdale is located on the river flats of the Mitchell River, near where the Mitchell River flows into Lake King. Bairnsdale is the commercial centre for the East Gippsland region and the seat of local government for the Shire of East Gippsland.

The Shire of Bairnsdale was a local government area about 280 kilometres east of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of 2,277.9 square kilometres, and existed from 1867 until 1994. For its first hundred years it governed both Bairnsdale and the surrounding area; however, after that time, Bairnsdale had its own city government.
