The City of Ararat was a local government area about 200 kilometres west-northwest of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. It existed from 1858 until 1994. Headquartered in Ararat, Victoria, the council had jurisdiction over an area of 19.09 square kilometres and by 1992 a population of 8,070 people. It was surrounded by the separate and largely rural Shire of Ararat.

J Ward
J Ward was an Australian prison used to house the criminally insane, located in Ararat, Victoria, Australia. The buildings are built out of blue stone. J Ward is now a museum open to the public. Tours are run every day except on public holidays at 11 am, 12 pm, 1pm & 2pm.
