Dandaragan, Western Australia

Dandaragan is a small town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. The name of Dandaragan was first recorded in 1850 as the name of a nearby gulley and spring or watering hole known as Dandaraga spring. The word is Indigenous Australian in origin and is thought to mean good kangaroo country. The first recorded land lease was to William Brockman in 1848; he had a 6,000-acre land lease at Muchamulla Springs. James Drummond settled in the area in 1850 and established a farm.

Melbourne County

Cataby Important Bird Area

Cataby Important Bird Area is a 314 ha tract of land lying about 2 km south of the town of Cataby, adjacent to the Brand Highway, in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. It has been classified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because it supports up to 24 breeding pairs of Short-billed Black Cockatoo, an endangered species that nests in remnant patches of eucalypt woodland and isolated paddock trees, and feeds in native shrublands.

Banksia prionophylla

Banksia prionophylla is a shrub endemic to Western Australia. Known only from a single population of around 70 plants in a remote part of Western Australia, it is considered rare but not endangered. It was first discovered in 2001, and published under the genus Dryandra in 2005, before being transferred into Banksia in 2007.
