Zvornik

Zvornik is a city on the Drina river in northeastern, Bosnia and Herzegovina, located south of the town of Bijeljina in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The town Mali Zvornik ("little Zvornik") lies directly across the river in Serbia, and not far north is Loznica.

Cultural Summer of Zvornik

The great manifestation called the Cultural Summer of Zvornik, Bosnia and Herzegovina, usually starts on August 2 and lasts for about six days. Its main objective is to become a traditional cultural event which will open the doors of Zvornik for recognized cultural values. The festival was first held in August 2001 as a local event and until now (2008) it grew up to one of to biggest festivals on the Balkans.

Zvornik massacre

The Zvornik massacre refers to acts of mass murder and violence committed against the Bosniak and non-Serb civilian population of the town of Zvornik by Serb paramilitary groups at the beginning of the Bosnian War in 1992. Estimates show that 40,000 Bosniaks were expelled from the town. It was the second city in Bosnia and Herzegovina that was forcefully taken over by Serb forces during the Bosnian War.
