Santa Cruz is an extensive and populous district of the middle class, lower middle and low in the west of the city of Rio de Janeiro, the farther from the central city. Cut by the Santa Cruz extension of the urban passenger rail network of the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, has a very diverse landscape, with commercial areas, residential and industrial. It is the seat of the nineteenth Administrative Region (AR), comprising also the surrounding neighborhood of Paciência.

Paciência is a suburb of the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the western part of the city. The region began to grow in 1878 with the inauguration of the Campo Grande railway station, connected to the Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil (Brazilian Central Railway). It became easier to reach the center of the city quickly, and the region began to develop at a rapid pace.
