Raoping County

Raoping County is a county in eastern Guangdong Province, to the west of Fujian Province, near the South China Sea. The city with the same name has 135,600 inhabitants (1990). It is under the jurisdiction of Chaozhou. Raoping is famous for its seafood and fruits.

Chenghai District

Chenghai is a district of the city of Shantou, Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China. It is the birthplace of Qin Mu, and Zheng Yong, the father of Taksin who was a Thai king. It is located in the southeast part of Guangdong Province. Chenghai was a town founded since 1563 AD, under Teochew jurisdiction, controlled by Shantou City from 1983 to 1994. From 1994 onward, Chenghai was upgraded to a county-level city and was administrated by the Provincial Government directly.

Battle of Nan'ao Island

The Battle of Nan'ao island (Nan'ao Dao, 南澳岛) was a battle fought between the nationalists (Kuomintang) and the communists during the Chinese Civil War and communists emerged as the victors. Nan'ao Island (Nan'ao Dao, 南澳岛) of Swatow (now known as Shantou) remained in the nationalist hands after Guangdong fell into communist hands. On March 3, 1950, the 121st division of the 41st Army of the People's Liberation Army attacked the island.
