Alcides Fernández Airport is a commercial airport on the Caribbean coast of Colombia serving to town of Acandí. The airport is considered by residents of the town of Acandí to be an important link between that community and the rest of Colombia as well as neighboring Panama. Acandí is a town of Colombia situated at the northern end of the department of Chocó, northwest of Colombia, the Caribbean Sea. Located 366 km from the provincial capital, Quibdó. Its average temperature is 28 degrees Celsius. It was founded around the year 1887, and it became a municipality in 1905, previously was part of Turbo. Acandí name is a corruption of the indigenous voice "Acanti" which means "River of Stone", a voice that was changed by the people who arrived by the name it has now.
