Jiménez (canton)

Jiménez is the name of the fourth canton in the province of Cartago in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 286.43 square kilometres, and has a population of 14,934 (estimate as of 2003). The capital city of the canton is Juan Viñas. The Turrialba River forms the northern boundary of the canton of Jiménez, with the Reventazón River and Atirro River establishing the eastern border and the Pejibaye River delineating a major portion of the canton's border on the west.

The defunct Caribbean railway line delineates a portion of the southern boundary of the oval-shaped canton, along with the Río Reventazón.

Turrialba (canton)

Turrialba is the name of the fifth canton in the province of Cartago in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 1,642.67 square kilometres . Its estimated population as of 2009 was 70,867. The canton's capital city is Turrialba. Turrialba is the 11th largest canton among the 81 cantons that comprise Costa Rica. The Río Turrialba and Río Atirro establish major portions of the canton's western border, and the Río Chirripó delineates its long southeastern border.

Lake Cachí

Lake Cachi (Spanish: Lago de Cachí) is an artificial lake in central Costa Rica created by the Cachí Dam (Represa de Cach), an arch dam which is located in Tapantí National Park, to the southeast of Cartago in Cartago Province. The main town is Cachí, located away from the east bank of the lake. Built in the 1970s, it was one of the first hydroelectric projects in Costa Rica. It has an installed capacity of 102 MW with three units of 34 MW capacity each (Vertical Francis turbines).
