Esparza (canton)

Esparza is the name of the second canton in the province of Puntarenas in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 216.80 km², and has a population of 25,503. Its capital city is also called Esparza. The major portion of the canton lies along the coast of the Gulf of Nicoya between the mouths of Río Barranca and the Río Jesús María. An extension of the canton reaches northward from Esparza into the Cordillera de Tilarán. The canton of Esparza is subdivided into 5 distritos (districts).

Montes de Oro (canton)

Montes de Oro is the name of the fourth canton in the province of Puntarenas in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 244.76 km², and has a population of 11,806. Its capital city is Miramar. The mountainous canton lies in the Cordillera de Tilarán northeast of the city of Puntarenas. It is limited on the north by the Río Aranjuez. The Río San Miguel and Río Tiacinto delineate the southern boundary.

San Mateo (canton)

San Mateo is the name of the fourth canton in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 125.90 square kilometres, and has a population of 5,643 (estimate as of 2003). The capital city of the canton is also called San Mateo. The northern border of the elongated province is formed by the Río Jesús María, Río Machuca, Río Agua Agría, Río Calera and Quebrada Zapote. The Quebrada Concepción, Río Grande de Tárcoles and the Río Machuca establish the southern border.

Academy at Dundee Ranch

Academy at Dundee Ranch was a behavior modification facility for United States teenagers, located on La Ceiba Cascajal, 10 kilometres west of Orotina, province of Alajuela, Costa Rica. It was promoted as a residential school, offering a program of behavior modification, motivational "emotional growth seminars," a progressive academic curriculum, and a structured daily schedule, for teenagers struggling in their homes, schools, or communities.

Pillars of Hope
