Orotina (canton)

Orotina is the name of the ninth canton in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 141.92 square kilometres, and has a population of 16,651 (estimate as of 2003). The capital city of the canton is also called Orotina. The canton lies on the western side of the Coastal Mountain Range between the Río Jesús María and Río Machuca on the north and the Río Grande de Tárcoles on the south.

Puriscal (canton)

Puriscal is the name of the 4th canton (or "county") in the province of San José, Costa Rica. In Spanish, a "puriscal" is the flower of the common bean. The capital city of the canton is Santiago (de Puriscal). The canton of Puriscal covers an area of 553.66 km²; the Río Chucás delineates the canton's northernmost boundary, while the Río Chires marks its far southern border, with the canton of Parrita in Puntarenas Province.

Atenas is the name of the fifth canton in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 127.19 square kilometres, and has a population of 23,743 (estimate as of 2003). The capital city of the canton is also called Atenas. It is a fairly compact canton, mountainous for the most part. The Río Grande (Great River) forms the border on the canton's north and east sides.

Atenas (ah-TEN-nahss) is the capital city of the canton of Atenas in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica. It is also the name of the distrito (district) that includes the city. The district of Atenas covers an area of 8.93 km², and has a population of approx. 27,000 inhabitants. Its name means Athens (Αθήνα), the capital of Greece.
