Vindija Cave

Vindija is a cave near the city of Varaždin, Croatia, known for being the site of one of the best preserved remains of Neanderthals fossils in the world, found in 1974. It is estimated that Neanderthals lived there about 30,000 years ago. One of these Neanderthals was selected as primary source of DNA for the Neanderthal genome project.

Bajnski Dvori Castle

Bajnski Dvori Castle is a castle in the Gornje Ladanje village, Vinica municipality, Varaždin County, northern Croatia. Located in the surrounding park, near a small lake and a chapel, the castle represents a valuable example of architectural skill and historical heritage. It was founded in the 17th century by the members of Both of Bayna, a noble family of Hungarian ancestry, who gave two Bans of Croatia, John in 1493 and Andrew in 1505-1507.

Opeka Manor

Opeka Manor (also known as Bombelles Manor) is a castle in the Vinica municipality, Varaždin county, northern Croatia. Located in the surrounding park with a large arboretum, the manor is situated below the Macelj forest in the northern part of Hrvatsko Zagorje historic region. It was founded in the 17th century by the Counts of Keglević and later owned by the Counts of Nadasdy, then Drašković and finally Bombelles (until 1945). Today the manor is weathered and longs for renewal.

Opeka Arboretum

Opeka Arboretum is situated in the Vinica municipality, northern Croatia. Located in a large park surrounding a manor, Opeka arboretum, with its 65 hectares, is the largest of the three arboreta existing today in Croatia. The arboretum was founded in 1860 by the Count Marko Bombelles, who travelled a lot all over the world and brought back various exotic seeds and plants from his travels, expanding his garden and park all the time with exceptional care.
