Altos de Chavón

The biggest attraction in La Romana, Dominican Republic, is Altos de Chavón, a re-creation of a medieval European village conceived from the imagination of Roberto Copa, a former Paramount Pictures set designer, and Charles Bluhdorn. Its construction began in 1976 when the construction of a nearby road and bridge crossing the Chavón River had to be blasted through a mountain of stone.

Casa de Campo, Dominican Republic

In 1975 Gulf+Western developed 7,000 acres of its Central Romana sugar mill's land into the Casa de Campo resort. Situated in La Romana on the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic, Casa de Campo (Spanish for "Country House") is a Ponderosa-style, tropical seaside resort. The first to enjoy the luxuries of this enclave were friends of the late Charles Bluhdorn, Gulf+Western’s founder and CEO, who built the retreat.

La Romana International Airport

La Romana International Airport is located on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, adjacent to the tourist town of La Romana and the resort of Casa de Campo. The airport, which opened in December 2000, is about 68 miles (110km) from the capital, Santo Domingo. The single terminal is built in the style of an old sugar mill.

Estadio Francisco Micheli

Estadio Francisco Micheli (formerly known as Romana, in reference to the city where it is located) is a private multipurpose stadium dedicated mainly to the sport of baseball. Located in the city of La Romana, with a capacity for about 7,000 people, is the home of the Dominican professional team, the Toros del Este. The stadium was inaugurated in 1979 by President Antonio Guzmán Fernández and is owned by the Central Romana Corporation.
