Battle of Las Carreras
The Battle of Las Carreras, was a major battle during the years after the Dominican War of Independence and was fought on April 21, 1849, nearby Baní, Peravia Province. A force of Dominican troops, a portion of the Army of The South, led by General Pedro Santana, defeated an outnumbering force of the Haitian Army led by Faustin Soulouque.

Cruce de Ocoa
Cruce De Ocoa is an important junction and a small town in the Dominican Republic. Less than a thousand inhabitants live in the town. A major highway, DR-2, passes through and intersects with DR-Route 42 at Cruce De Ocoa. DR-Route 42 connects DR-2 to San José de Ocoa, capital city of the province with the same name. Several "paradores", a Dominican name for rest stops, are located here.

Pomier Caves
The Pomier Caves are a series of 55 caves located north of San Cristobal in the Dominican Republic. They contain the largest collection of 2,000-year-old rock art in the Caribbean primarily by the Taino, but also by the Carib and the Igneri, the pre-Columbian indigenous inhabitants of the Bahamas, Greater Antilles, and some of the Lesser Antilles. These caves have been damaged by the uncontrolled mining of limestone nearby.
