HMAS Armidale (J240)

HMAS Armidale (J240), named for the city of Armidale, New South Wales, was one of 60 Bathurst-class corvettes constructed during World War II, and one of 36 initially manned and commissioned solely by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Launched in early 1942, and initially assigned to convoy escort duties, Armidale was transferred to Darwin in October 1942.

Same is a city and subdistrict in the interior of East Timor, 81 km south of Dili, the national capital. Same has a population of 25,000 and is the capital of the district of Manufahi, which was known as the district of Same in Portuguese Timor.

Battle of Same

The Battle of Same (4 March 2007) was fought in the village of Same in Timor Leste, 50 kilometres south of the capital Dili, between Australian Special Forces and Petitioner rebels under the command of Alfredo Reinado.
