Liquiçá

Liquiçá is a coastal city in East Timor, 32 km to the west of Dili, the national capital. Liquiçá is the capital of Liquiçá District. The city has a population of 19,000 inhabitants. On April 6, 1999, in the campaign of intimidation and violence that preceded the referendum for East Timorese independence, about 200 persons were killed in the Liquiçá Church Massacre, when members of the Besi Merah Putih militia, supported by Indonesian soldiers and police, attacked the church.

The Liquiçá Church Massacre was an atrocity that occurred in the war torn country of East Timor, in April, 1999. It was the first case to be heard by the Second Special Panel.

Bazartete

Bazartete (also known as Bazar Tete) is a village in East Timor, comprising a subdistrict of Liquiçá district, located on a mountain top deep in the rain forest, just to the southeast of Liquiçá township. The area and its surrounding villages was the site of numerous cases of intimidation, rape and murder committed by members of the Besi Merah Putih militia group following and during the autonomy vote of 1999.

Buku Mera

Buku Mera is a village situated midways up a mountain range, in the East Timor Liquiçá district. The village is located to the south east of the Liquiçá township, halfway between Liquiçá and Bazartete. During September 1999, the village suffered numerous cases of rape and murder at the hands of the Besi Merah Putih militia.

Dom Aleixo

Dom Aleixo is a subdistrict in the east of Dili District of East Timor, at the mouth of Comoro River. It is named after Aleixo Corte-Real. Its population at the 2010 census was 105,154. Its area is 33,12 km². The Sucos of Dom Aleixo are Bairro Pite, Comoro, Fatuhada and Kampung Alor. Here are the Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport, the ministry for foreign affairs and the main mosque of East Timor. The Tasitolu salt lakes are in the most western part of Dom Aleio in Comoro Suco.
