Barjou

The Château de Gavaudun is a castle in the village of Gavaudun on the river Lède, near the Périgord noir region. It was built on a rocky spur and overhangs the river. The lofty 13th century keep rises 25m above the level of the rock. In the vicinity are the Château de Bonaguil and the Château de Biron.

Combe-Capelle

Combe-Capelle is a Paleolithic and Epipaleolithic site situated in the Couze valley in the Périgord region of Southern France. Henri-Marc Ami carried out excavations from the late 1920s until his death in 1931. The famous Homo sapiens from Combe Capelle was for a long time considered to be a Paleolithic Cro-Magnon man and one of the oldest findings of modern humans in Europe.
