Alagnon

The Alagnon, also spelled Allagnon, is a 86 kilometres long river in central France, left tributary of the river Allier. Its source is near the village Laveissière, near the Plomb du Cantal, in the Massif Central. Auvergne is one of the 27 administrative regions of France. It comprises the 4 departments of Allier, Puy de Dome, Cantal and Haute Loire. The current administrative region of Auvergne is larger than the historical province of Auvergne, and includes provinces and areas that historically were not part of Auvergne. The Auvergne region is composed of the following old provinces: Auvergne: departments of Puy-de-Dôme, Cantal, north-west of Haute-Loire, and extreme south of Allier.

Château de Saint-Ilpize

The Château de Saint-Ilpize is a ruined castle in the commune of Saint-Ilpize in the Haute-Loire département of France. The medieval town of Saint-Ilpize clings to a basalt rock on which stands the castle. Within the castle's walls is a 14th century chapel built of polychromatic tufa; a basalt gable wall houses the church bells.
