Aven (river)

The Aven is a natural watercourse on the south coast of Brittany, France. (Atlas, 2007) Its source is near Coray. It flows in a generally southerly direction through Rosporden and Pont-Aven before discharging into the Atlantic Ocean at the seaside resort Port Manec'h, part of Névez. Paul Gauguin spent some of his life living in the town of Pont-Aven, where he enjoyed painting scenes by the River Aven.

Château de Rustéphan

The Château de Rustéphan is a small, ruined 15th-16th century manor-house in the Finistère département of France. It is located in the small rural town of Nizon, near Pont-Aven. It was erected by Jean Du Faou, chamberlain of France and grand seneschal of Brittany, who built the domaine in 1420.

Glénan Islands

The Glénan islands (French: Îles des Glénan or Archipel des Glénan, Breton: Inizi Glenan) are an archipelago located off the coast of France. They are located in the south of Finistère, near Concarneau and Fouesnant, and comprise seven major islands: Saint-Nicolas, the Loc'h, Penfret, Cigogne, Drenec, Bananec, and Brunec. In addition, there are over a dozen smaller islets. The Glénan islands have been home to the Glénans sailing school since it was founded in 1947.

Battle of Groix

The Battle of Groix was a large naval engagement which took place off the island of Groix on the Biscay coast of Brittany on 23 June 1795 during the French Revolutionary Wars. The battle was fought between elements of the British Channel Fleet and the French Atlantic Fleet, which were both cruising in the region on separate missions.
