Battle of Arracourt

The Battle of Arracourt was a battle between U.S. and German armored forces during World War II near the town of Arracourt, Lorraine, France, from 18 to 29 September 1944. As part of a counteroffensive against recent U.S. advances in France, the German 5th Panzer Army had as its objective the recapture of Lunéville and to force the collapse of the U.S. XII Corps bridgehead over the Moselle River at Dieulouard.

Château de Blâmont

The Château de Blâmont is a castle built at the end of the 13th century in the French commune of Blâmont, in the département of Meurthe-et-Moselle. It underwent successive alterations and extensions in the 13th, 14th and 17th centuries which have made it one of the most beautiful medieval castle ruins in Lorraine, thanks to the preservation of five towers. Château de Blâmont is listed as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.

Château de Lunéville

The Château de Lunéville which had belonged to the Dukes of Lorraine since the thirteenth century, was rebuilt as “the Versailles of Lorraine” by Duke Léopold from 1703 to 1723, from designs of Pierre Bourdict and Nicolas Dorbay and then of the architect Germain Boffrand, whose masterwork it became. Lunéville was classified a Monument historique in 1901 and by successive ordinances.
