Hubert Latham

Arthur Charles Hubert Latham (10 January 1883 – 25 June 1912) was a French aviation pioneer. He was the first person to attempt to cross the English Channel in an aeroplane. Due to engine failure during his first of two attempts to cross the Channel, he became the first person to land an aeroplane on a body of water.

Sangatte

Cap Blanc Nez

Cap Blanc Nez (literally "Cape White Nose" in English) is a cape on the Côte d'Opale, in the Pas-de-Calais département, in northern France. The cliffs of chalk are very similar to the white cliffs of Dover at the other side of the Channel in England.

Channel Dash

The Channel Dash, (codenamed Operation Cerberus by the Germans), was a major naval engagement during World War II in which a German Kriegsmarine squadron consisting of both Scharnhorst class battleships, and heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen along with escorts, ran a British blockade and successfully sailed from Brest in Brittany to their home bases in Germany via the English Channel.

Cité Europe

Cité Europe is a shopping centre located next to the French terminal of the Channel Tunnel at Coquelles. Inaugurated on March 21, 1995, approximately 10 months after the Tunnel opened, Cité Europe has over 140 shops, a hypermarket, a 12-screen cinema complex and around twenty restaurants. Designed by architect Paul Andreu, it is intended to echo the design of the Tunnel. It is easily accessible by public transport, and has free parking for more than 4000 cars.
