Battle of Gisors

The Battle of Gisors (September 27, 1198) was a skirmish fought in Courcelles-lès-Gisors, Oise, Picardie, part of the on-going fighting between Richard I of England and Philip Augustus of France that lasted from 1194 to Richard's death in April 1199. The earlier conflict restarted after the truce between the two kings— just long enough to see the harvest in, according to the chronicler Roger of Hoveden— expired.

Saint-Germer-de-Fly Abbey

Saint-Germer-de-Fly Abbey is a former Benedictine abbey located in the village of Saint-Germer-de-Fly, in Picardy in the Oise département of France. Only the late Romanesque-early Gothic church remains, now the village parish church. It is regarded as one of the earliest manifestations of the Gothic style in France. A Late Gothic chapel added in the 14th century is noted as a smaller-scale reinterpretation of the Sainte-Chapelle of Paris.

Jeanne Hachette

Jeanne Laisné (born 1456) was a French heroine known as Jeanne Fourquet and nicknamed Jeanne Hachette ('Jean the Hatchet'). All that she is currently known for is an act of heroism on 27 June 1472, when she prevented the capture of Beauvais by the troops of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy. The town was defended by only 300 men-at-arms, commanded by Louis de Balagny.

Basse Oeuvre

The Basse Œuvre (French for "Lower Work", as distinct from the Nouvel-Œuvre), in full the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Basse Œuvre of Beauvais (in French Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Basse-Œuvre de Beauvais), is a church at the west end of Beauvais Cathedral, dated to the 10th century It was classed as a historic monument in the list of 1840. It is the west end remnant of a much longer church which formerly was Beauvais's previous cathedral.
