Wiegboldsbur

The formerly independent village of Wiegboldsbur in East Frisia in North Germany has been part of the municipality of Südbrookmerland since the regional reform of 1972. Wiegboldsbur is a ribbon development (Reihensiedlung) and lies on the Großes Meer about 10 km northwest of the sea port of Emden. The parish chair is Bernhard Behrends (SPD).

Sandwater

The Sandwater near Simonswolde in the north German district of Aurich is a shallow, peat-fen (Niedermoor) lake on the edge of the geest and is one of the few remaining, preserved, natural "inland seas" in East Frisia. The lake was formed probably during the warm climatic period of the Atlantic (period) about 5000 years ago, then disappeared temporarily after land uplifting and climate changes, only to reappear about 2000 years ago.

Großes Meer

The Großes Meer is a naturally formed fen lake (Niedermoorsee) in north Germany that lies between Aurich and Emden near Bedekaspel in the Südbrookmerland region, on the edge of the East Frisian geest where it transitions to the Ems marshes. The lake is the fourth largest in the state of Lower Saxony with an area of open water of about 289 hectares (and reed bed covering about 400 hectares). The Großes Meer is – apart from a few deeper spots – only 0.5 to 1.0 metre deep.
