Kalkriese

Kalkriese is a 157-m high hill in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is hard to pass along Kalkriese's northern slope because one has to cross many deep brooks and rivulets. To the north of the Kalkriese is a large wetland, which stretches north for a large distance. It is a presumed archaeological site of the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

Battle of the Teutoburg Forest

The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest (German: Schlacht im Teutoburger Wald, Hermannsschlacht or Varusschlacht), described as clades Variana (the Varian disaster) by Roman historians, took place in 9 CE, when an alliance of Germanic tribes led by Arminius of the Cherusci ambushed and decisively destroyed three Roman legions, along with their auxiliaries, led by Publius Quinctilius Varus.

Dümmer

The Dümmer See or Dümmer is a large lake in southern Lower Saxony. It has a surface of 13.5 km² and an average depth of one metre. Its elevation is 37 metres. Dümmer is a popular resort for water sports, but also an important biotope for water birds and located in a zone especially frequented by migratory birds. A large section of its shore is protected by nature reserve areas.

Damme Priory

Damme Priory (Priorat St. Benedikt, Damme) is a Benedictine priory dependent on Münsterschwarzach Abbey, and is situated at Kemphausen in Damme in the district of Vechta in Lower Saxony, Germany. In December 1962 monks from Münsterschwarzach settled in Kemphausen at the farm of the Kophanke family, the last member of whom (Fräulein Maria Kophanke) wished the property to be used for monastic purposes. From 1970 to 1983 the community had a small boarding-school and now run a guest-house.
