Lower Saxon Hills

The Lower Saxon Hills are one the 73 natural regions in Germany defined by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN). Geographically it covers roughly the same area as the Weser Uplands in its wider sense. The region is part of Germany's Central Uplands with hills ranging up to 528 m above sea level in height that extend across northeast North Rhine-Westphalia, southern Lower Saxony and northern Hesse.

Lippe

Lippe is a Kreis in the east of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighboring districts are Herford, Minden-Lübbecke, Höxter, Paderborn, Gütersloh, and district-free Bielefeld, which forms the region Ostwestfalen-Lippe. The district of Lippe is named after the Lords of Lippe and their Principality of Lippe. It was a state within the Holy Roman Empire and retained statehood until 1947, when it became a district of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Battle of Vlotho

The Battle of Vlotho was fought on 17 October 1638, it was a victory for the Imperial Army under the command of Field Marshal Melchior von Hatzfeldt, and ended the attempt by Charles I Louis, Elector Palatine, to recapture the Palatinate. {{#invoke:Footnotes|sfn}} Charles Louis' defeat marked the last time either Palatine or English forces played a significant role in the Thirty Years' War.
