Lower Saxon Hills

The Lower Saxon Hills are one the 73 natural regions in Germany defined by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN). Geographically it covers roughly the same area as the Weser Uplands in its wider sense. The region is part of Germany's Central Uplands with hills ranging up to 528 m above sea level in height that extend across northeast North Rhine-Westphalia, southern Lower Saxony and northern Hesse.

The Werre is a river in the Detmold region (Regierungsbezirk) of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, left tributary of the Weser. Its source is near Horn-Bad Meinberg. The Werre flows generally north through the towns Detmold, Lage, Bad Salzuflen, Herford and Löhne. It flows into the Weser close to Bad Oeynhausen. The total length of the Werre is 71.9 km. It crosses the districts of Lippe, Herford and Minden-Lübbecke.
