Sarre (department)
Sarre is the name of a department of the First French Empire which is now part of Germany and Belgium. It is named after the river Saar. It was formed in 1798, when the left bank of the Rhine was annexed by France. Prior to the occupation, its territory was divided between the Archbishopric of Trier and the Electorate of the Palatinate. Its territory is part of the present German states Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland as well as a tiny adjacent section of the Belgian province of Liège.

Karl Marx House
The Karl Marx House museum is the house in Trier in which Karl Marx was born in 1818; it is now a museum. The significance of the house went unnoticed until 1904, at which point the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) worked hard to buy it, succeeding in 1928. After the Nazi party came to power in 1933 the building was confiscated and turned into a printing house. On May 5, 1947 the building was opened as a museum of the life and works of Karl Marx.

The Porta Nigra (Latin for black gate) is a large Roman city gate in Trier, Germany. It is today the largest Roman city gate north of the Alps and has been designated a World Heritage Site. The name Porta Nigra originated in the Middle Ages due to the darkened color of its stone; the original Roman name has not been preserved. Locals commonly refer to the Porta Nigra simply as Porta.

Transmitter Trier
The Transmitter Trier went in service in 1932. It was situated at the Ruwerer Street 16, Trier, Germany and used from its inauguration on February 19, 1933 until 1935 as transmitting antenna a vertical cage aerial, which was fixed at a hemp rope, that was spun between two 63 metres high wooden towers, 120 metres apart. In 1935 this antenna was replaced by a wire antenna, installed in a newly-built 107 metres high wooden lattice tower.
