Saalkreis Nord

Saalkreis Nord was a Verwaltungsgemeinschaft ("collective municipality") in the Saalekreis district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It was situated northwest of Halle (Saale). The seat of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft was in Wettin. It was disbanded in January 2011. Petersberg, Halle

The Petersberg, at 250.4 m above sea level, is the highest point in the district of Saalekreis in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Its name is derived from St. Peter's Church which is on the hill. Until the 14th century the Petersberg was known as the Lauterberg.

Wettin Castle

Wettin Castle is a former castle that stood near the town of Wettin on the Saale river in Germany, and which is the ancestral home of the House of Wettin, the dynasty that included several royal families, including that of the current ruling family of the United Kingdom. In 982, Dedo I (d. 1009) and Frederick (d. 1017), sons of Dietrich, count of Hassegau or Hosgau, received lands taken from the Wends, including the county (or Gau) of Wettin on the right bank of the Saale.
