Schöningen Spears

The Schöningen Spears are 8 wooden throwing spears from the Palaeolithic Age, that were found under the management of Dr. Hartmut Thieme from the Lower Saxony State Service for Cultural Heritage (NLD) between 1994 and 1998 in the open-cast lignite mine, Schöningen, county Helmstedt, Germany, together with approx. 16,000 animal bones.

Obere Aller

Obere Aller is a Verbandsgemeinde ("collective municipality") in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Before 1 January 2010, it was a Verwaltungsgemeinschaft. It is situated approx. 30 km west of Magdeburg. It is named after the upper course of the river Aller, in its territory. The seat of the Verbandsgemeinde is in Eilsleben. The Verbandsgemeinde Obere Aller consists of the following municipalities: Eilsleben Harbke Hötensleben Sommersdorf Ummendorf Völpke

Helmstedt–Marienborn border crossing

The Border checkpoint Helmstedt–Marienborn, named Grenzübergangsstelle Marienborn (GÜSt) (border crossing Marienborn) by the German Democratic Republic (GDR), was the largest and most important border crossing on the Inner German border during the division of Germany. Due to its geographical location, allowing for the shortest land route between West Germany and West Berlin, most transit traffic to and from West Berlin used the Helmstedt-Marienborn crossing.

St. Ludger's Abbey

St. Ludger's Abbey (German: Kloster St. Ludgeri) was a former monastery of the Benedictine Order in Helmstedt, Lower Saxony, founded by Saint Ludger around 800. Until it was secularised in 1802 it was an Imperial Abbey, with sovereignty over the whole town of Helmstedt until the 15th century.
