Amerika, Saxony

Amerika is a former company settlement in the German Free State of Saxony and a district of the town of Penig. As a small village of 79 residents (2010), it is known merely for its name, the German word for America, which was given to it in the 19th century. In 1836, a spinning factory was built on a the left bank of the river Zwickauer Mulde. Houses for workers and clerks were built in 1870.

Chemnitz (river)

The Chemnitz is a river in Saxony, Germany, right tributary of the Zwickauer Mulde. It gave name to the city of Chemnitz, where it is formed by the smaller rivers Zwönitz and Würschnitz. It joins the Zwickauer Mulde near Wechselburg, south of Rochlitz and has a total length of 75 km.

Joachim, Count of Schönburg-Glauchau

Joachim, Count von Schönburg-Glauchau was the head of the noble house of Schönburg. Dispossessed and expelled from his homeland in 1945, he and his family migrated to the Rhineland, where he was an author and journalist. After the fall of the Berlin wall, he returned to his homeland, represented the district in the Bundestag, and served in local government.
