Taygetus

Mount Taygetus, Taugetus, or Taygetos is a mountain range in the Peloponnese peninsula in Southern Greece. The name is one of the oldest recorded in Europe, appearing in the Odyssey. In classical mythology, it was associated with the nymph Taygete. During Byzantine times and up until the 19th century, the mountain was also known as Pentadaktylos (Πενταδάκτυλος; Greek for five-fingered, a common name during that period).

Dafni, Laconia

Dafni is a village near Sparta, in Laconia, Greece. Local archaeologists state that Lykovouno (a small mountain near Dafni) was one of the most valuable parts of ancient Sparta. Dafni was founded in 1890. Until then, the local people lived on Lykovouno.

Vaphio

Vaphio is an ancient site in Laconia, Greece, on the right bank of the Eurotas, some five miles south of Sparta. It is famous for its tholos or "bee-hive" tomb, excavated in 1889 by Christos Tsountas. This consists of a walled approach, about 97 feet long, leading to a vaulted chamber some 33 feet in diameter, in the floor of which the actual grave was cut. {{#invoke:Footnotes|sfn}}

Arna, Greece

Arna is a village on the eastern slopes of the Taygetus mountain range, at an altitude of 700m to 850m (2,300 to 2,800 feet). Located in Laconia, in the Peloponnese, it used to form part of the municipal unit of Faris until the 31st of December of 2010. Since 1st of January of 2011 it is one of the local communities of the municipality of Sparta. The nearest major towns are Gytheio, 35 km to the southeast, and Sparta, approximately 40 km to the north. The area has a rich history.

Vyros Gorge

The Vyros Gorge (Greek: Φαράγγι του Βυρού) is a deep river gorge situated in the 'Outer Mani' region of the Peloponnese in southern Greece. It runs from the foot of Profitis Ilias (the highest mountain of the Taygetus range) to Kardamyli.
