Vlachopoulo

Vlachopoulo is the central village of the municipality of Papaflessas in the center of Messenia, Greece. The village is located 38 km from the capital of the prefecture Kalamata and just 20 km from the nearest beach. Vlachopoulo is a rural village, the main products are olives, raisins and grapes. Palace of Nestor

The Palace of Nestor is the central building of a Middle Helladic era settlement surrounded by a fortified wall. The palace was a two-storey building with store rooms, workshops, baths, light wells, reception rooms and a sewage system. The site is the best-preserved Mycenaean Greek palace discovered. The palace with its four chief buildings, is a work of the 13th century, and its history falls between 1300 and 1200 B.C.

Pylos

Pylos, historically known under its Italian name Navarino, is a town and a former municipality in Messenia, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pylos-Nestoras, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. It was the capital of the former Pylia Province. It is the main harbour on the Bay of Navarino. Nearby villages include Gialova, Pyla, Elaiofyto, Schinolakka, and Palaionero.

Battle of Navarino

The naval Battle of Navarino was fought on 20 October 1827, during the Greek War of Independence (1821–32), in Navarino Bay, on the west coast of the Peloponnese peninsula, in the Ionian Sea. An Ottoman armada, which, in addition to imperial warships, included squadrons from the eyalets (provinces) of Egypt, Tunis and Algiers, was destroyed by an Allied force of British, French and Russian vessels.
