2010–13 Haiti cholera outbreak

The ongoing Haiti cholera outbreak is the worst epidemic of cholera in recent history, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. After the 2010 earthquake, in little over two years, as of January 2013, it has killed more than 7,900 Haitians and hospitalized hundreds of thousands more while spreading to neighboring countries including the Dominican Republic and Cuba. Since the outbreak began in October 2010, more than 6% of Haitians have had the disease.

Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite is a town in the Artibonite Department of Haiti. It is located in the Artibonite Valley. One of the important battles of the Haitian Revolution (1791–1804) was fought here at Crete Pierrot wherein Jean-Jacques Dessalines ravaged the French army led by Rochambeau.

Hospital Albert Schweitzer Haiti

Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti, founded by Larry Mellon (1910–89) and his wife Gwen Grant Mellon (c. 1908-2000) in 1956, is an integrated rural health system that provides medical care and community health and development programs for 300,000 impoverished people in the Artibonite Valley of central Haiti.
