2010 Haiti earthquake

The 2010 Haiti earthquake was a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake, with an epicenter near the town of Léogâne, approximately 25 km west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital. The earthquake occurred at 16:53 local time on Tuesday, 12 January 2010. By 24 January, at least 52 aftershocks measuring 4.5 or greater had been recorded. An estimated three million people were affected by the quake. The highest reliable death count was estimated at 220,000. Haitian government estimates were higher.

For the district of Botswana, see South-East District. Sud-Est (English: South-East, Haitian Creole: Sidès) is one of the ten departments of Haiti. It has an area of 2,023 km² and a population of 518,200 (2002). Its capital is Jacmel. It used to be part of Ouest Department.

La Visite National Park

La Visite National Park (French: Parc National La Visite) is one of the two national parks of the Republic of Haiti. The park covers approximately 30 km, consisting mainly of pine forest, grasslands, and some montane broadleaf forest at an altitude above 1,700 m . The Haitian government established the La Visite National Park in 1983. The capital,Port-au-Prince, is only 22 kilometers north from the park. The western boundary of La Visite is the ridge of the Massif de la Selle.

Léogâne

Léogâne is a seaside town in Ouest Department, Haïti. It is located in the eponymous arrondissement, the Léogâne Arrondissement. The port town is located about 29 km West of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince. The town was at the epicenter of the 12 January 2010 earthquake, and was catastrophically affected, with 80-90% of buildings damaged. It also had been destroyed in an earthquake in 1770.
