Straumnes Air Station is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. It is located 169 miles north of Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland. It was closed on 30 June 1992.

Fljótavík

Fljótavík is a wide cove in the far north-west of Hornstrandir, in the Westfjords region in Iceland. It is a part of the nature reserve Hornstrandafriðland (status granted in 1975) which covers the northernmost tip of Hornstrandir. A deep valley rises from the cove and a shallow lake (which is more of a lagoon). It was settled during the settler age by Geirmundur heljarskinn who also settled nearby coves and valleys.

Grunnavík

Grunnavík is a bay (vík) at the mouth of Jökulfirðir, in Westfjords, Iceland, located some 12 km to the ENE of Bolungarvík. Grunnavík was permanently inhabited up to 1962, but is today only occupied seasonally, as a summer resort. Hornstrandir Hesteyri

HMS Niger (J73)

HMS Niger was a Halcyon-class minesweeper of the Royal Navy. She was launched in 1936 and was sunk during the Second World War by a mine near Iceland in 1942. Five merchants she was escorting also sank top mines at the same spot.
