Bolungarvík

Bolungarvík is a fishing village and municipality in the North-West of Iceland, located at the Vestfirðir peninsula, approximately 14 kilometres from the town of Ísafjörður and 473 km from the capital city Reykjavík. Bolungarvík had 888 inhabitants on 1 January 2011. It is one of Iceland's oldest fishing outposts, well positioned close to abundant fishing grounds. The quiet countryside attracts some tourists, mainly in summer.

Latrar Air Station

Latrar Air Station is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. It is located 153.2 miles north of Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland. It was closed on 28 June 2006 as part of the closure of United States military facilities in Iceland.

Bolungarvíkurgöng

Bolungarvíkurgöng is a tunnel in northwestern Iceland, located in Vestfirðir along Route 61. It has a length of 5,156 m and opened on September 25, 2010. One of the main objectives of building the tunnel was to replace one of Iceland’s most dangerous roads which connected two of the largest towns in the area, Ísafjordur and Bolungarvík, and thereby improving road safety. The old road lies along the seashore under the steep and unstable mountain hills of Óshlíd.
