Banten (town)

Banten (sometimes called Bantam) near the western end of Java was a strategically important site and formerly a major trading city with a secure harbour at the mouth of Banten River that provided a navigable passage for light craft into the island's interior. The town is close to the Sunda Strait through which important ocean-going traffic passes between Java and Sumatra. Formerly Old Banten was the capital of a sultanate in the area.

Old Banten

Old Banten is a historic city which was the capital of the Indonesian Sultanate of Banten. It is now part of the Serang Regency located about 11 km north of Serang city. Today, Old Banten is a historical tourist attraction, where many people visit to pay their respects and prayers at the graves of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin and his descendants.

Banten Bay

Banten Bay also known as Bantam Bay is a bay in Banten province, near the north west tip of Java, Indonesia. It is part of the Java Sea and has a total water surface of approximately 150 square kilometres and an average depth of seven metres. Merak, Banten

Merak is a city and seaport in Cilegon, Banten, on the northwestern tip of Java, Indonesia. The port and town are named after the Green Peafowl, which once lived in the region, but is now very rare. The port is connected to Jakarta via the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road.

Anyer

Anyer (also Anjer) is a town in Banten, formerly West Java, Indonesia, fifteen kilometres south of Merak. It is home of a forty metre lighthouse built by King Willem III of the Netherlands in 1885 as a memorial for the townspeople killed by the eruption of Krakatau, which destroyed the town. It is also the starting point of the Great Post Road, built by the Dutch in the nineteenth century, which ran 1,000 kilometres to the eastern tip of Java.
