Cheekha Dar

Cheekha Dar, or The Outer Row, is the local Kurdish name for the mountain currently thought to be the highest in Iraq. It is claimed to be 3,611 metres high by the CIA. It is 6 kilometres north of the village of Gundah Zhur and is on the border with Iran. It was climbed in November 2004 by English explorer Ginge Fullen, who recorded a GPS reading of 3,628 meters at the coordinates in the table to the right.

Soran District

Soran (Kurdish: ﺱۆﺭاﻥ or Deverí Soran) is an area in Iraqi Kurdistan bordering Iran and Turkey. Its main city is also called Soran, although the town of Rawanduz is better known outside of the region . According to Kurdistan television, citing an official in the town of Soran, the population of the region is estimated to be over 400,000. Kurdish settlement in the region dates back prior to the establishment of the Sassanid empire.

Kelashin

Kelashin is a mountain village in northern Iraq, near the Kelashin Pass (2,981m) to Iran, some 80 km south-west of Lake Urmia. The Kelashin Stele found there bears an important Urartian-Assyrian bilingual text dating to ca. 800 BC.

Rowanduz

The town Rawandiz is a city of Iraq, which located in the sub-district of Soran, in the Arbil Governorate of Iraqi Kurdistan, close to the Iranian border. The population in 2003 was 95,089. The majority of people are now Kurds, with Assyrian, Shabak and Arab minorities.
