Kurdistan

Kurdistan is a roughly defined geo-cultural region wherein the Kurdish people form a prominent majority population, and Kurdish culture, language, and national identity have historically been based. Contemporary use of Kurdistan refers to parts of eastern Turkey, northern Iraq, northwestern Iran and northern Syria inhabited mainly by Kurds. Sandur, Iraq

Sandur, also spelt Sundur, was a village located in Iraqi Kurdistan, about 70 miles north of Mosul, near Duhok, towards Amediyah. It was historically a Jewish agricultural settlement inhabited by Kurdish Jews.

Zawita

Zawita, is an Iraqi town of about 5,000 people the Dohuk Governorate. The name of the village is thought to come from Syriac ܙܘܝܬܐ meaning "corner". The village is inhabited mainly by Kurds and the second biggest group being the Assyrians. At one point it was home to majority Assyrians, prior to the Simele massacre. A number of Christian-owned businesses in the village were looted and burned downed during the 2011 Dohuk riots.
